i thought this thread should be a sticky(Tommy could you do it?) because i'm going to post many quotes in the future. plase do the same if you want to.
here is an old and really funny one by shania herself:
"In 1993, my first album appeared and disappeared"

Love the idea Tina. Shania has had many sites and threads for that matter paying homage to her fine speaking and intellectual skills. She's a very bright, articulate, and many times witty and humorous lady. Gotta love that, charming and much admired.
This is a great thing to post country gal...quotes by Shania. As already stated she is intelligent and articulate and she also has a great sense of humour. Her album (first) may have disappeared when first released but now I believe has gone platinum at least once. Maybe 2nd ammendment knows this stat for the exact amount.
Shania's debut album was last certified in April 1999, that's exactly nine years ago. The last I heard, sales were at 1.8 million US. Maybe someone has more accurate numbers as that 1.8 has been floating around at least four years. Hopefully soon it can be certified 2x platinum.
First i want to thank Tommy for making this thread a sticky, Thank you Tommy i appreciate it.
Lulu and 2nd you are right on everything you said, and yes shania's first album could be considered a succesful one by now.
here is a nother quote by Shania:
"i like to have fun with music.the purpose of music for me is to entertain.i'm not out there to be Einstein,i'm making music for records, not for textbooks.i'm looking to entertain and ispire people, make them feel good or stir up emotions" Canadian Musician magazine '98.
now this is why the crtitics are mad at shania because she is the first to say that her music is to entertain and is not so 'serious".so that's leave them with nothing to say against her,ha ha good for shania.

"I'm an old-fashioned person and I think country music helps me stay true to that"
"I could've easily fell in alcohol or smoking but music saved my life"
Shania Referring to her Belly Button: "I refuse to play down the way I look in order to be taken seriously as an artist, I mean if I had an office job, I wouldn't show up for work baring my midriff, But this is Entertainment, I don't want to be 50 years old and thinking I should have enjoyed it while I had it."
"I don't carry anger, frustration, or regret with me. I believe you have to take responsibility for coping and then move on"
"I'd rather clean my toilet than go to a show-business party."
"I really feel like life will dictate itself. You should allow it to unfold as naturally as possible. Just go with the flow. When you're really desperate, you say a few prayers and hope for the best. That's the way I've always lived my life."
"It's so easy to get flattered by everything that's going on around you. And it's okay to be flattered, but it's not okay to lose a true sense of humility. And it's hard. Sometimes you're trying to build your confidence and confidence comes from ego. In order to be really confident, and do a good job, it's kind of an ego thing. So, how do you do that and stay humble at the same time? ... I think humility is the most important thing for me to remember."
"Yes, you can lose somebody overnight, yes, your whole life can be turned upside down. Life is short. It can come and go like a feather in the wind."
"Later in my life, I'm going to look back and smile and be very fulfilled. I know that if I don't give it my all right now I'll regret it later. That's very important to me, because I've worked all my life to have this.
"I don't like drugs. I don't like alcohol. I like clean living people around me." (on choosing her band)
"My perfect day would start with breakfast out on the terrace, looking at the Alps. I'd wrap a duvet round myself, lounge around, then put on a soup or stew. Then I'd spend time with my horses. I'd come home, have a nice dinner and then Mutt and I would go watch a movie."
"I've always been so intense. I have to learn how to chill out. My husband is great at that. I love to cook, so when I'm home that helps me to relax."
"I start every day with a fruit and tofu shake. I always have liked soybeans, black beans, or chickpeas for lunch or dinner - and I love pasta. There are just so many ways to make pasta. And the Italians gave us so many wonderful sauces - your basic tomato, basil, olive oil, garlic." (on what she likes to eat while on the tour)
"To be honest, I'm pretty exhausted, I soak in a hot bath and then go to bed. I'm not one of those people who stays up til four in the morning eating pizza and drinking beer." (on life on the road)
"It's kind of fun, but I'm not sure what the definition of a diva is anymore. It could be an insult I suppose, but I think it's kind of fun." (on being called a Diva)
"I'm very independent. I've always been very bold, straightforward and black 'n' white about things in everyday life. I like to simplify things, get to the facts. That's always been the way I've been and nothing has ever been able to distract me - it's almost an insensitive quality. When your raised poor, and you've got lots of responsibilities as a child, you just end up that way, and it actually can be a bitter thing, but when my parents died, it just made me realize how valuable life is, how really fragile life is." (on a part of her personality)
"Women are strong, and women admire beauty just as much as men do. I'll tell you one thing, men are more intimidated by me than the women. I'm not kidding."
"Sometimes we would literally go two or three days at a time where we'd sit by the fire and start writing in the morning, go for a walk later in the afternoon, go for a horseback ride or eat, then write, go to bed really late, get up early in the morning and start all over again." (on writing the album Come On Over)
"I'm as excited as anyone when I get up there and win, but to be honest with you, I don't sit there waiting. I learned a long time ago that you just end up being very disappointed. I think it can make you very bitter if you just put too much weight in that. I don't want to be bitter. I don't even want to compete on that level, so I take it very lightly, actually." (on winning awards)
Thank you for all of these quotes 2nd Ammendment. They really give us a good picture of who Shania is as a person. Her statement about being old fashioned and that "country music helps her stay true to that" really got me to thinking she will be loyal to country music with her next cd. She has always stated that country music was her"roots".
These quotes also show a strong willed yet compassionate person. She really likes to live the simple life and enjoys simple things despite her fame and fortune. She is not spoiled by her fame. I love too that she does not drink (to excess or anything like it) and does not smoke. What an excellent role model for our young.
I am really glad that she does not put an emphasis on winning awards. The polictics of Nashville has truthfully denied Shania her due in rewards and #1 hits. She has such a good attitude about these things. Yeah Shania, you rock girl Thank you for posting Joe
i love the frist one and i agree, actually i seldom disagree with what Shania says, she's a level headed woman with a great sense of humour.
Quote: "I've been in this bussiness long enough to know that it's not about how much the fans like you it's got nothing to do with that.it doesn't matter how well your album is doing.these are just a very small group of people who decide who they want to represent their show.it's as simple as that.I've never really had a shoe in there. I'm Canadian.I'm not traditional...everyone is always asking me for the formula.there's no formula to success.I make music for the people, for the fans." About the CMA's.

Well said lulu, very well said. There's much to be appreciated of this fine lady. It's amazing a certain group of people have such disdain for this woman and disapprove of her with a passion. I don't know who in the entertainment business today can be exemplified as a decent wholesome role model more so than Shania? No one is perfect, but Shania does a pretty good job distinguishing the rights and wrongs. She's a gem and at a level little can claim. And I agree with both of you. Tina, Shania is a a level headed lady and I enjoy her witty sense of humor that 99% of the time s non offensive, rude, or crude.
It's nice to know, someone goes out of their way to make sure those around her like her band are not boozers and druggies and don't smoke. And everything we have mentioned from Shania's quotes.
Here's some good quotes of Shania mentioning country music:
"In spite some folks saying Shania might some day go completely pop, she says that'll never happen. "I mean I'll never not be country, how can you not ," Shania asks. "How can you be something and then not be it any more? I mean I just don't understand that. Country is so deep in my roots and such a huge part of my youth, my most impressionable years, that it's just not going anywhere and I think even for people who listen to me in pop and all that sort of thing, the style of the way I write, which is very conversational lyrics, very real lifestyle lyrics, comes from my country roots."
"Country music is still your grandpa's music, but it's also your daughter's music. It's getting bigger and better all the time and I'm glad to be a part of it."
"My goal is to appeal to as many people as I can. I'm not looking to leave country, but I do want to have more international success."
"It's not that one minute I'm a pop artist and the next minute I'm a country artist. I'm just who I am. I'm capable of making the music sound however I want to make it sound."
"My music is country with a lot of outside influences. It is a mix of a lot of different styles of music."
"It makes me very excited to know that I might be in someone's record collection who has no other country records. And then at the same time, I'm in another record collection of people who just listen to country music and they wouldn't dare listen to anything else. They both have my record. I'm very flattered by that. Isn't it great that music can cross those boundaries?"
So I still think there is hope for her original fans like me who are very fond of her country styling more so over her pop styling, hehe. I surely hope she stays the course and doesn't forget us.
Well..I know it is only Monday and Friday is still not here but have to wonder if it might be 2 weeks straight.. For those who missed it I started in Bobs Corner my posting of the week... Week one(last Fri) went to ..Guess Who...Country Gal for her Music in Eurpoe posting... Could it be back to back wins???....This post is one strong contender...Bob
"Have I shown Nashville?Yes,but it wasn't my intention.Nashville is a very small town, controlled by a small group of people. It's not like they tried to ruin me,they just weren't sure. You need the opportunity to get to the fans and you're home free. Then the industry turns around, which is what happened to me.I don't hold it against them I'm saying that's life."
"If was just to write on my emotions all the time,I doubt I would ever have a hit."
"I'm not a sexual artist-sexy perhaps-I don't make out in my videos or any of that stuff."

"I can honestly say that I would be disappointed if I wasn't being recognized by the country world, because we've come such a long way together."
"I would definitely be considered a pop arist. My roots are country, that's for sure...As long as Dolly Parton always likes my music, then I think I'm safe."
"I don't regret any of my struggles in life.I've had to learn how to survive;I've had to dig down into my own creativity and say,ok you can be better."

Great examples Tina. I really like them all and especially what she said of Nashville; and how her music might not have been a hit if she wrote on emotion. I could only imagine what she'd be saying lyrically.
I also don't recall that she said: "I'm not a sexual artist-sexy perhaps-I don't make out in my videos or any of that stuff."
I knew she said something similar a few times about not being sexual, but not as it was stated here. Cool.
Yes, these are such good quotes Tina and 2nd Ammendment. Shania is to me, and always will be a country artist. I love her attitude about the politics and "power of a few" in Nashville. Not to be stupid but who is she referring to...the members of the CMA's, the press. the record execs, her fellow musicians who exactly. I have often wondered who was responsible for denying her awards. I know some radio stations continue to give her trouble, her "Forever and For Always" garnered enough spins to be a #1 hit but country radio did not let it rise above 5 I think (It hit #1 on the Contemporary Charts though). It is such a nasty side of Nashville is'nt it. I am so proud of how Shania has handled herself she really is a wonderful woman.
Through it all Shania has handled it and herself well. FAFA reached #4 on country after gaining some quick momentum and all of a sudden fell on its face. It did go #1 I think 9 weeks on AC. Shame shame country establishment, everybody knows your name, lol.
"I've seen alot of bar fights. If one broke out in front of me I'd get right in there, as I can't stand to see people hitting each other. I'd be trying to split them up, Like I was going to be able to do anything! I'm surprised I didn't get myself killed!" - Peace Officer
"I'm a morning person. I don't sleep in. So if I'm going to be up I prefer to do my work in the morning because I hate breaking up my day." - Being the Early Bird
I love reading this site. Instead of feeling always down that there is no new music, we can remember the lady behind the music and appreciate all of the things that make her stand out above others even when not in the spotlight. She is one of a kind and all the new faces who say they are the next Shania have to realize that there will forever and always be only one.
"It was definitely a force that brought us together, something drove him,and I'm not sure even he knew what is was.It was definitely a force."-on meeting Mutt
"The reality is,it's just all me,the songs are as country and as rock and pop as they are because that's what I'm.I pck everything I wear, everything I do,every move I make.I am directing myself artistically, period,no ifs, ands or buts about it."
"I don't like war,I don't think anybody likes war.but at the same time,if you speak out you run the risk of offending somebody. What about the people who have sons and daughters over there fighting and they hear you say that?"-on Natalie Maines comments about the war in Iraq

Love 'em Tina. Great ones. I like how she knows what she wants and takes control of her career that way. Mutt gave her the room to let her confidence through.
I especially like what she said about the opinions of war, it's an ugly thing but there are reasons and I like how she gave respect by mentioning what about the sons and daughters fighting and what a put down it is to hear those negative comments. Shania is a class act, shows respect, and has shown full support for the US and our efforts. I thank her for that.
glad you liked it Joe,although i did had a feeling tht you would.
Now Here's A Early Experience Of Fame for SHANIA....
"I was in this clothing store once and this lady says,'you re Shania Twain',and for some reason-it was a nervous reaction-I said ,'no I'm not' I lied I said, No you're made a mistake! And she said,'No I know you're Shania Twain,I see you on TNN all the time',And she started arguing with me.So of course I made a complete fool of myself, and I had to admit that I was Shania Twain. But I'm getting used to it now. When you're in your private realm, you just forget who you are.I don't want to think I'm a star 24 hours a day. That's such a vain thing." Love them all Tina. That is funny (the one where she denies she is Shania Twain lol). All the quotes really reflect a humble person. One of the many reasons we love her.
Yes, Shania say she may be getting comfy with fame but to this day she still gets caught out of character in places where people recognize her, lol. She's like a deer in headlights sometimes when she forgets she is Shania while trying to be Eilleen, lol.
She tries to be so normal in an abnormal world. It must be overwhelming at times for someone like her.
I also can see how she knows what she wants, is definitely a doer and a thinker, and expects others around her to be reliable and focused, and as long as they work steady, I can see Shania being easy going and understanding and definitely good to work for. For one, her band mates just love her.
Love all of her quotes, no wonder she's such a good song writer! I wonder if some of her songs will change as she gets older. Like writing about some of the private sorrows she has been through. It might even be like therapy in a way for her.
Shania's been asked that a lot, but up to this point some of those are even hidden from her husband, hehe. She's been described as having a vault full, lol.
She said maybe one day she'll open up and share. She also indicated that the next album will be more introspective about her struggles, dealing with fame, ect but that it will remain positive and try to inspire and uplift rather than sorrow. We'll see!
I hope her next album is an up one. The only song I never liked was don't. Video was beautiful but song was kind of sad and couldn't help but wonder what made her write this one.
"Being famous isn't all that great,or anything to aspire to personally. If I could do what I do without being famous, that would be my choice.Ideally,I would have become a back up singer and have other stars singing my songs."
Oprha After Show: "During the hardship of my childhood,Dolly Parton was such a staple of my life...And so to have her there,it was just really weird and it was very emotional. It was a personal moment, that's what it was,and it was on Tv."
On working in the reforestation: "I miss it so,but it was hard work. There were a lot of four in the mornings when I did not feel like getting up to plant a tree.I was one of the guys,I really was.I worked as hard as any of them,if anything even harder.I was determined never to be outwalked or outworked and I gained tremendous respect from my workers.I would tell people how to do things a few times. If they didn't get it right then they would be let go.If they cheated, they would get fired and have to walk to the nearest road.It could take you a day to do that.Cheating lets other people down. What an insult." -British Q Magazine'99

I think these quotes show what a wonderful and strong person she was country gal. Forestation is hard work. I am wondering what her next cd will be like too. On the greatest hits cd I was not that fond of "Don't" too. It was not my cup of tea but I recognize it as being another great song written by Shania.
I hope her next album is an up one. The only song I never liked was don't. Video was beautiful but song was kind of sad and couldn't help but wonder what made her write this one.
Mutt and Shania were asked to do a sad song for a movie that stared J-lo and Morgan Freeman.
"There were many days when we had to huddle round the stove because we couldn't pay the heating bill.we went to bed wearing our coats, literally freezing. It's not the way you want to live, you can die in those conditions.I don't think our parents would have allowed us to die, they would have taken us to a shelter, but we definitely endured what we could,we pushed it to the limits. We managed and I'm glad we did.A little bit of hardship's ok,it's not the end of the world,it's better than being abused. As a child, you feel punished if you've separated from your family just because you're poor,so we did everything we could to hide it from other people so we children wouldn't get taken away."-British Q mag '99.
On Singing In Bars When she was Little: "Um,I didn't advertise it.I didn't go to school saying I was in a bar untill two this morning. The clubs gave me $20 and it was my parent's way of getting me experience.i was scared s***less.i had terrible stage fright. It was a good thing my parents encouraged me.If i'd had it my way,i'd have taken the easy option and remained a songwriter, not a performer.I loved music but I was never passionate about being a performer."- British Q mag '99
"Mutt is completely bilingual, although he never knew a word of french before he moved. He's doing so well.He is the perfect guy."
My Fridge Esential: "Butter,real butter.I can't live without that.You've gotta have butter.I mean,when you're out of BUTTER.There's no substitute.None of those love-fat spreads,no,no,no!I cook with it,although I use oil as well.I'm quite conscientious.And I don't have it on sandwiches.Swiss butter is fabulous.And Canadian butter is amazing."-UK Daily Mirror'99

Great quotes country gal. I did not stop to think that Shania would have experienced no heat in the winter. Its true, if you can't pay your bill they (the company) cuts you off. I really believe all of these experiences have made Shania a better person. She must so apprecicate what she has now as she had to endure much at one time. I wonder too if she will ever write songs about those days. I read an article that Shania had said she has written many songs both lyrics and the music that she has not allowed anyone to see, including Mutt. I wonder if these songs are about her early years? Either way I bet they are terrific songs and I hope Mutt (and the rest of us) get to hear them one day.
I can't picture Shania having stage fright....it must have been very hard for her to sing in pubs until 2 in the morning. Nowadays you simply could not do that. It is great that her parents encouraged her to be a performer. Her life in the beginning was difficult. All of these experiences must make her really appreciate what she has today.
Hey Lulu, i'm really glad you liked them,i have many more quotes to post. i also thought that it would be a great idea if i'd post some GOOD comments that some music critics have said about shania, since we focus on the bad stuff most of the time and that makes us mad,i thought just for a change to post the good ones this time.
More to Come....

Yes, I was so happy to see Shania honored in Canada for her music. I have never understood the hatred for Shania....I know they blame her for the New Country Sound what I don't understand is why they continue to hate her. Honestly, any adult would have gotten over it by now...but it continues....how sad.
you guys are both right, my favorite moment of shania's career was when she received the Order Of Canada,oh boy, what an honor.
personally i'm more annoyed by the pop music critics, than by the country ones. if you notice they're always say nasty things, they implied that her music is for uneducated people etc. like for example N.Y news papers, those are the worst, they used to trash the Eagles back in the '70s. and they are always harsh on shania whenever they 're doing a review of her concerts, they are even harsh on US the fans. i really prefer the country music critics, and to be honest they're not all of them against shania.

Great idea for a thread, Christina. I really enjoyed re-visiting those classic Shania quotes again. I think you know you're a hard core Internet Shania fan when you know all those Shania quotes off by heart.
Hey Guys,i thought that it would be a great idea if i post some Q&A's from various interviews, just like the one below:
Q-you're presumably aware that stories have circulated about you and Mutt joining an Eastern religion that forbits non-procreative s**.So just for the record,do you and your husband have s**?
A-"Of course[laughs].Isn't that so weird?There are a lot of religions that don't permit s** outside of procreation or,at least,suggest that.But,no,of course we have s**.
Q-Well,you have a child so I'm guessing you're done it at least once.
A-"Right.We have certainly had s** more than once. We've been married for ten years, you can kind of work it out". - GQ British mag '03.

Q-you married your husband six months after meeting him.Do you think you were meant for each other?
A-"We were-I followed my heart and it didn't let me down! He's just a beautiful person. We have a very strong relationship. We've survived all the pressures that careers like ours can put on a marriage:moving around, separations you have to endure, the intense time together, all the change you have to flow with. And we're still very happy.I look at him with complete adoration and love.I melt.we just went to a wedding, and I looked at him and thought, wow!I feel like we're still in the beginning.
Q-A lot of women wish they could say that. What's the secret?
A-"There are times when we're compatible in different ways.
sometimes we're more romantically in tune with each other.Other times we're more creatively in tune.Different parts of our relationship dominate at different periods in our lives."
