Shania Twain was raised in a small town in Canada. But that was 75 million albums ago. And now? "I think for the very first time, I really feel like I belong here," she said of Nashville at a private party at the uber hip Virago sushi restaurant last week. "And that might sound a little bit weird, but when you come from a small town in Canada, it's not like America needs any more talent. It has everything it needs. And so I always felt like an outsider -- because I was." Twain said all that to make the point that it's great to be back in Nashville. "At peak of my career, I was in such a whirlwind that I was too tired to really enjoy what was happening. I was meeting everybody, and it was all just whizzing by, and I didn't take it in. And now I've been welcomed with open arms like never before, and it's just a really good feeling. I love what I do, and I'm so glad I'm back doing it again." By "doing it again," she means doing all the things country singers do. Starting with a new song, "Today Is Your Day," which was released Sunday (June 12). Welcome home, Shania.
