For those of you that are not canadians this is how it works.. In Canada we have a governing body called the CRTC.. I controls many things including radio airplay. In the early 70's it brought in a law that is still on the books today... 30 percent of ALL music played on a given station MUST be Canadian artist.. Some hate this law, feeling it is too much control and that we as the listeners should have the right to hear whatever we push the stations to play.. Others feel this law is right as it protects Canadian artist to ensure they get air play... Many artist including Shania will tell you they LOVE the law.. Easy to see why.. Because she was talented she would get airplay in Canada to start and see where her carreer goes from there.. Now how it REALLY helped Shania was that she was SO good she got a HUGE portion of that 30 percent required by law.. Needless to say some other Canadian musicians did not like this as Shania was grabbing a huge portion of the 30 percent.... ANYHOW... The CRTC played at HUGE role in Shanias carreer in the early years.. No doubt the CRTC would say..See without our 30 percent content rule ,the world may never have known Shania.. Personally I feel the Deerhurst gig would have given her enough to get the start that she needed but the CRTC will try to take the credit...Bob
