Sarah Palin's new campaign rally song

It sounds like Shania's SHE'S NOT JUST A PRETTY FACE is the new Sarah Palin campaign rally song. They played at the end of today's rally.

Over the past few days Palin has definitely been bringing the ammo to both of her Democratic opponents. At the conclusion of the rally, Shania Twains Shes not just a pretty face played. . .perhaps Sarahs new song?

Hi guys - I'm new to the forum. I have been a Shania Fan since 1996 and have been a longtime member of the ShaniaForums. I don't know why it took me so long to join this forum but here I am! Tommy, thank you for having the best Shania site around, you keep us informed and excited.

I decided to post something here because I am enraged that someone like Sarah Palin would think that Shania's song would represent her. I don;t mean to offend anyone so please don't take this personally, this is just my opinion.

With all due respect - Sarah Palin is a woman who does not share Shania's beliefs and I really hope Shania makes a request for her to stop playing that song. Shania needs to stand up and join the others like Heart, Jackson Browne, John Mellencamp, Van Halen, etc. and ask for the McCain campaign to stop playing her song. After all, Sarah Palin is an avid Hunter and that goes against what Shania believes in. Shania may have hunted in her youth, but that was to put food on the table - not for sport. Sorry to get political but that Sarah Palin is horrible. I'm also pretty sure that Shania is Pro-Choice and she wouldn't want a woman to have to keep a baby if she was raped or if the baby was from incest. Sarah Palin - Bravo for being a strong woman, but you are the wrong woman for America. PEACE

How absurd of you using poltics and Shania's song as some motive.
Give it a rest, Shania is not for either side and she said she doesn't care if her song is used.
Why should she cry and ask them to stop playing it?
If  people like her song enough to play it then let them.
This has nothing to do with politics with Shania but you seem to bring poltics into it because you don't like Sarah Palin.

It is just a song, and who cares who plays it.both sides play Shania's songs and Shania doesn't mind so you shouldn't either.

I am just telling the truth and telling like it is.
this is not a forum to use your own political beliefs as a motive.
Shania doesn't care if her music is played so why should someone who has a potical motive.
Shania made it very clear when asked about this when Hillary clinton was using her song as a possible campaign song. Shania said she is flattered anyone would use her song and she picks no sides and doesn't use her status as a political platform.

25, welcome to the forum but I was just pointing out that this is no place to use politics and to say Shania shouldn't allow her song being used because you don't like Sarah Palin.
Shania picks no sides and doesn't care who uses her music.

I disagree, I don't want any celeb to get involved in any politics.
And  having her song used by one political party does not mean she supports one side or another.
That is one of the things I respect about Shania how she keeps out of politics and doesn't use her status as  a political platform.
And to top it all off she is Canadian.

I agree with Kevy.  Shania is smart to be above U.S. politics.  Because the fact is, right now roughly half of the U.S. backs McCain and Palin, and the experts predict this to be a close election.  Which means that roughly half of Shania's U.S. fans probably agree with McCain and Palin on alot of issues.  Shania's music isn't just for people who agree with her politically, her music is for everyone.  And despite what shaniafan25 claims, Shania's personal politics are not well known.  I'd bet that Shania has much more in common with Sarah Palin than with any of the other politiicians in this election.

As for Heart, Jackson Browne, John Mellencamp, Van Halen, and the like, if they don't want people with different ideologies associated with their music, then they shouldn't take the hard-earned money of people who have different beliefs than theirs.  Which, as I mentioned above, is about half of the U.S.  When these musicians "take a stand" and put their money where their mouths are, and don't take the money of the right-leaning americans who buy their albums and purchase their concert tickets, then I'll take them seriously.  But I don't expect these acts to take that sort of stand anytime soon. smile

Thank goodness Shania is wiser than they are.

Palin: 'Job Security for the SNL Characters'

Sarah Palin's gaffes or missteps in recent national interviews were part of a larger strategy, the GOP vice-presidential said Monday.

Its all about giving the cast of Saturday Night Live something to parody.

In a light-hearted display of self-deprecation, Palin talked about the recent attention she received over her answers in recent interviews. In particular, Palins comments from a long series with CBS-TV's Katie Couric have garnered scads of press, on questions about everything from what she reads to her stance on Supreme Court cases.

The interview was part of a parody on the late-night comedy show Saturday Night Live. Actress and comedian Tina Fey, who bears a striking resemblance to Palin, has portrayed the Alaska governor three different times. The first appearance was a mock skit but the other two were based on real moments of Palin's from the campaign trail. Last Saturday, Fey returned to re-enact the vice-presidential debate.

"I'm happy to be speaking directly to the American people to let them know if you want an outsider who doesn't like politics as usual or pronouncin' the 'g' and the end of words she's sayin' I think you know who to vote for," said Fey, imitating Palin. "Oh, and for those Joe Six-packs out there playing a drinking game at home Maverick."

On Monday, to a crowd of hundreds gathered in a park here, Palin called the CBS interview "less than successful" and apologized for getting "really impatient" because the questions weren't about issues "Americans wanted to hear about." (Critics of Palins vice-presidential debate performance panned her for avoiding the issues-based questions.)

"I was just trying to keep Tina Fey in business," she said to big applause. "Job security for SNL characters."

After the rally, Palin shook hands with audience members as Shania Twain's "Shes Not Just a Pretty Face" blared from the speakers. "She's on the council, she's on the board / She's a politician, she praises the Lord," Twain sings. "She's not just a pretty face / She's got everything it takes."

By Kelli Malafronte

Bay News 9 Web Content Editor

PINELLAS COUNTY (Bay News 9)

--
Republicans are really fired up about Gov. Sarah Palin, even at six o'clock in the morning.

That's what time the gates and parking areas opened up for supporters attending a Palin rally at Coachman Park in downtown Clearwater Monday.

Supporters mostly liked Palin for the same reasons; she's down to earth, she holds her own, and she's genuine. Oh, and they give the loudest cheers (in the category of non-politics) when someone mentions the Tampa Bay Rays.

I actually saw someone wearing a Rays shirt with a "Palin Power" pink tee-shirt draped over her shoulder. She most likely just purchased it. I also saw someone wearing a Bucs shirt, probably because it was red.

The crowd's enthusiasm only grew as singers belted out "God Bless the USA," to which they sang along, and listened to a line of speakers, including the mayors of Clearwater and St. Petersburg, Gov. Charlie Crist, and Sen. Joe Lieberman of Connecticut.

And the enthusiasm is catchy, even if your standing in the crowd pompon-less, thunderstick-less, sign-less, only there to observe and report.

That's what I learned at my first political rally.

--

The city opened up parking at Jack Russell Stadium about a mile from the park, to which this direction-challenged, especially if dealing with street closures and one-way streets, web content editor, says "thank you."

The parking lot filled up fast and bus after bus came to pick supporters up. I think I waited about 15 minutes in line where I met Doreathea Gifford, a volunteer with the Republican headquarters in Dunedin, standing behind me.

Today's rally was not Gifford's first. She came with her friend, Joan Owens. Both were wearing McCain-Palin shirts.

Gifford went to the Barack Obama rally in Dunedin last month to protest. She said she was the only one out there protesting and was glad there was a sheriff's deputy nearby.

She said she liked Palin because she has "gumption, is sincere, which Biden isn't," and has "family values."

Gifford proudly said she has already converted three people to the McCain-Palin side.

--

The bus pulled up to another long line outside the park.

"Is this the line to get in?," someone asked.

I got off the bus, passing by people selling buttons, and people with clipboards asking supporters to volunteer if they didn't want Barack Obama to be president.

"No , thank you," I said.

I thought I heard someone selling ponchos. I thought, "Is it going to rain today?" I had packed a mini umbrella anyway. I confess I didn't watch Weather on the Nines this morning.

If you admitted you were a Pinellas County voter, you also got campaign leaflets from people running for this or that in November.

--

While waiting to get in the park and pass through security (which didn't take as long as I thought it would), a woman decked out in a John McCain hat and American flag kerchief around her neck asked what school I was reporting for. :) I don't know whether that was because I looked young or sorta lost.

It was about 7-ish and the day was only beginning for Suzanne Claessens, who said she has attended rallies for years. She still had to go to work in St. Petersburg at 9. Palin was scheduled to speak at 9, but Claessen said her boss was cool with it, even if she was a Democrat.
--

As soon as I got to the park I saw the bleachers were filling up fast.

I would've loved to just sit down and take in the view for the next two hours but I walked around some more and met a mother and daughter, who already have rally experience. They both attended the McCain rally in Tampa.

Allison Reynolds and her daughter Rachael, 15, from Lutz, were wearing matching light blue McCain/Palin shirts. In case you're wondering, Rachael wasn't missing school because she was home schooled, but there were other kids and teens at the rally as well.

Both were in agreement on why they "love" Sarah Palin. Going back and forth they said she was "energetic, genuine, charismatic, down to earth, motherly, not afraid to speak her mind, and is a good role model."

"She's someone I could see sitting in my living room having coffee with," said Allison Reynolds.

--

While looking around the rally, I realized I had only had a female point of view about Palin so I found a man standing against a gate. I told him this, to which he smiled and replied, "We support Palin, too."

Julius Brownley drove from Hillsborough to hear Palin speak, who he called "exactly what the country needs." He was most interested in what she had to say about the economy.

Similar to what others have said, including my mother, a Republican, he says Palin is "energetic, tells it like it is, and is a Washington outsider."

A few minutes later, the patriotic music began. No more interviews I guess. It was about 8 o'clock. There was about another hour to go before Palin arrived.

--

Getting back to Republicans being fired up, St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Baker was especially fired up. He was one of the speakers who energized the crowd waiting to get a glimpse of Palin.

He started off with a "Go Rays" to big applause then to louder applause when he said "I think John McCain made a pretty good pick for vice president."

After his speech, someone next to me whispered to someone next to her, "I've never seen him so fired up." Just what I was thinking.

The host of the rally, Clearwater Mayor Frank Hibbard, even commented on it.

--

Gov. Charlie Crist was one of the last few to speak before Palin was introduced. Rep. Bill Young introduced him, jokingly saying, Crist said everyone was invited to the wedding.

Crist started off by saying he was proud of Palin and thought she did a great job at the debate. He said he was also proud of the Tampa Bay Rays. "Hope they heard that up in Chicago," he said.

Crist said Sarah did her job and told the crowd it was up to them now, saying it was "giddy-up time."

Crist's two sisters and fiance, Carol Rome, were also in attendance.

--

Finally, the crowd was told to keep an eye on the Clearwater Memorial Causeway for the motorcade.

Everyone, including me, held their cameras in the air. You really can't see the cars on the bridge too well from the park, especially if your 5' 5" and standing behind tall people also holding their cameras/cell phone cameras in the air.

There were some false alarms like when someone would start chanting "Sarah," Sarah" only to die down a few minutes later when no one came out. I actually felt disappointed.

Then finally Sen. Joe Lieberman spoke and introduced Palin to the crowd.

I couldn't really see her at first. There were too many thundersticks and pom-poms in my way. As she waved at each section I tried to get a picture. I stood on my tippy toes, tried to dodge heads in front of me, and finally got a shot. It came out okay. (Check out the slideshow to see).

--

Palin described herself as an underdog, comparing herself to the Rays.

"It's great to be here in the home of the Tampa Bay Rays." (I think I heard a cowbell ring at this point.) "I know that earlier some of the experts this year were kind of tough on the Rays. I've been there," she said as the crowd laughed. "But what a difference a season can make. Now, the Rays are in the playoffs for the first time ever. Florida knows a little something about turning an underdog into a victor and together that's what we can do."

She also addressed the recent negative press she's gotten following the airing of an interview with CBS news anchor Katie Couric.

"Evidently, there's been some interest in what I've been reading. I think this comes from, I think it's the result of probably a less than successful interview I've had recently with kinda the mainstream media," she said as the crowd booed. "What I shoulda told them was I was just trying to keep Tina Fey in business, just giving her more information. Job security for SNL characters. "

Find out what else Palin spoke about in this story.

--

After her speech, the song "She's Not Just A Pretty Face," by Shania Twain played as the crowd of supporters trickled out of the park.

From what I learned from Palin supporters about how they felt about her, it seemed like an appropriate song to end the rally.

If you don't know the song, the chorus goes like this, She's--not--just a pretty face She's--got--everything it takes She's--mother--of the human race. She's--not--just a pretty face.

Why do some fans use this a political thing?
Its just a song that many people like and anyone can play it if they want since Shania has no problem with it.
It has nothing to do with poltics, it is just a song that motivated people, it doesn't matter what party you are from.
I read at the shaniaforums by some person saying they hate when music is used in politics. What can of statement is that?
Anyone can use any song of Shania's because Shania doesn't care and is flattered that some people enjoy her songs so much.
So I  advice those Shania fans who are liberal and have a problem with it to chill  out.

Yes, they are all fake and only promise things that will get them elected.
To say one candidate is better than the other is absurd.
And to say someone is so inexperienced is also laughable since Obama is running for president and is the most inexperienced of all and you don't even need experience since they hire the best people in their cabinet and the most experienced.
bottom line is that the no politician is telling you the truth, they only say what will get them elected and to appeal to the most people.

I do find it funny that Shania's name is brought up so many times when people are discussing Sarah Palin.Whether it be blogs or articles by journalists.
Even the Washingtimes expert David Brooks said if you like Shania Twain then you will like Sarah Palin.
I would think Shania laughs at these things and would be flattered that her songs are used by both parties and by everyone.

I agree Christina, great photo comparisons, not the same but quite similar.

I also think Sarah is very likable. And before Shania met Mutt, she had even more in common with Sarah, it's true. I'm sure both women would respect each other.

And when Hilary used Shania's song, liberals had no problem and it was nice to hear Shania say she was flattered but it doesn't endorse a candidate, and she made it clear she was not giving an ounce of endorsement to Hilary when Shania spoke.

And for one rare moment, you and I agree kevy about politics and politicians. Bottom line, it really doesn't matter who is in the seat, it is a world order of government.

As a Canadien who watched the VP debate I thought that Sarah seemed quite genuine. I also lol agree with you kevy. I am glad Shania does not get involved with politics. That is how it should be really. I see no reason why they (either party) could not use Shania's music.

Shania has no say about what songs of hers are played in situations like this - BMI just licenses them out and collects royalties for the artist and label and songwriter....
