You know one of the things I love about Shania is the great asset she has been to the women's movement and the strength and courage she brought to country music as an independent, strong, beautiful, incredibly talented of songwriting and voice and kicked the doors of the black hats and "male" driven industry called country music. My precious and beautiful ShaniaGirl brought tons of millions of fans to country music's doors along with women of all ages and backgrounds ... and men to a way of life that encourages living the dream as an equal person of equal value and empowered to become the reality of childhood dreams and fantasy.
So on that note I feel the following must be stated for our young women and girls who have the right to dream and to be whoever they want... President, Prime Minister, homemaker, military general, running a farm, owning your own car and life and soul and being and any thing our girlbabies care to be. Equality rules in my world. And here I want to take the opportunity again to congratulate four wonderful women ... one who was in contention for President of the United States (and one of my heroes) of one party; another who is the actual voted Vice-President Candidate of the another American party, the leader of the Green Party of Canada in elections coming up and the new leader of our Christian Faith's Holy Land (Jesus, our Lord and Savior was born a Jew)... Israel.
So here goes. I personally feel Canada has to apologize for a CBC woman journalist's (Heather Mallick) horrible report and mean comments on the beautiful lady nominated for Vice-President of the USA; namely Sarah Palin... and her trashy comments that were so unfitting ... of CBC. CBC Canada is our jewel historically of the news and honest reporting and owned by the people of Canada. So it is really embarrassing for all women... especially a woman reporter dragging the Vice-President candidate of the Republican party through the muck when Mallick chose to do so under the guise of free speech and public reporting of the news.... don't you find it convenient how some media can play ugly games on the public's time.... and we pay for all news in this world from our pockets... and then slide under their "press" ticket and the laws that were built to protect the honest news reporting of our world... my personal view.
And the back bite I personal feel also of and from many women; who have 50 per cent of the vote in the USA and in Canada... are still upset over the treatment of Hillary Rodham Clinton by her own Democratic party and the media who did a slice and dice right before our eyes (in Canada it was called... the night of a thousand knives when it was done to John George Diefinenbaker by his own Conservative party years ago)... my personal view... and this is a beautiful, intelligent, educated and capable woman who is admired around the world- especially to women BY her own Democratic party and the world's media. Clearly, Barack Obama is absolutely awesome and everything that personifies today's youngbloods in politics and the world as we would like it to be; however, do not be mistaken from an educated, smart and well versed world that we country music radio folk are and live- if Barack Obama was white- Hillary Rodman Clinton would be running for President today of the Democratic party and she would have won and would be the new President of the USA in my personal view. To qualify this please understand, that I have enough scars on my body from over 45 years of being dragged though just about everything in the fight for human rights and union work to ensure equality and a fair and safe working place for all- and we created one of the 1st models of proclamation for our black community in over 5 counties by working tirelessly with all our youth (who sat at each and every meeting at each and every level of tables), all government and community levels ensuring- equality and the dream that all girl children growing up would and could have the same rights and privileges accorded to the "male" dominated world we still live in. It was signed and authorized by 75 youth and officials and one of the biggest celebrations ever and; subsequently, changed the level accorded to our youth and the equal ability to live their dreams and our future.
Canada is running a hastily called election within a two month period. There are 5 parties and candidate leaders canvassing the country of Canada (2nd largest country in the world with a population of a mere 33 million people). A National televised and media driven Debate has been called ( 4 Candidates are men and 1 is a woman). Well guess what! The "3 male leaders"- of the Conservative party - Prime Minister is now Stephen Harper, the NDP and Bloc Quebecois decided (and the media never said one word save one -male- journalist) that the debate would be tooo cumbersome (and the Liberal party is the 2nd largest party -Dion) so they cut Elizabeth May, Green Party leader and decided to have a "men" only debate. The only leader to disagree was the Liberal candidate-Dion and; of course, Elizabeth May, Green Party leader. Elizabeth May took her cause to Duffy the famous journalist of fairness on the political scene in Canada... and the world's women raged ....along with many men along with the Canadian public and voters. Well, as u can imagine- the global response was mind boggling and Canada's public and voters demanded this be corrected... and quickly (we fought so hard for women's equality to pass on to our young females and theirs so that all competent and able candidates are accepted... and their gender is not an issue. Ever). The backlash brought about a discharge of news that ALL the Canadian Leader Candidates would be participating in all public venues of the election process. You can be sure- we will remember- and she will carry a lot of votes over this. I think on ballot day many women will hold their mark of power when voting and think on all of this as women. Forget all your media driven polls and junk- which has not one authentic clue on how and what and whom and why we believe as we do; especially country music radio living folks- election day is the ONLY day of power- and it belongs truly to each of us who exercise our right to vote as much as our life.
The whole thing with CBC news blip calling out Sarah Palin; especially by a woman who is supposedly a person of education, integrity and respect of the people she reports any format of news to of Canada's public; has created enormous backlash and embarrassment from the USA and most Canadians as well. When you (as all staff of CBC are) are in employ of the public in Canada; the public, who pays the salary, expect and demand that quality standards be measured and upheld, job descriptions, duties and protocol live and abided by and are so, so critical... especially when translating the news in a factual and credible way to the Canadian people. The public's purse expects and will not tolerate bad behaviour and crossing the line of acceptable and unacceptable shoddy behaviour reporting news always draws blood and results. Freedom of speech is for all the people not just the media; many of whom seem to etch-a-sketch their press passes under the guise of reporter and journalist and reporter... in my personal view.
So on Shania's board- am sharing on this post because it seems proper.... as we are always celebrating the progress of women because of Shania and our young girls, teens and ladies right to dream and to actually become and be whatever they want. We; as women, need to lead by example and prove this to them as best as women everywhere.... we can do no less- and men who are the fathers and keepers of our young girl children- must always think of their future and who they want to be someday... my personal view.
In closing... I am so proud of Ms. Sarah Palin's nomination for Vice-President (and congratulations to Israel for their new female leader of their country, Tzipi Livni). I am proud of our Hillary Rodman Clinton and her class and dignity and the leadership and intelligence she has shown to all women and girl children globally by showing the world how a woman and a lady of the USA; holds herself and can, above all circumstances thrust upon her life. And am thrilled for Elizabeth May... the leader of the Green Party and her integrity and human spirit for standing up for women everywhere... a small step at a time... but a step. For Canada it is not only considered equally important as a leader in all the public formulas that all parties should have the same complete, fair and unbiased reflections of the actual party up to voting day for the public they wish to serve- it is the same for all free democratic countries and should be. This is, indeed, the time a great move ahead for women everywhere and encouragement to not only dare to dream... but actually live it. That's our Shania's creed and is obviously half of her fan base- the ladies and men who live here; as Shania fans, know it. Shania's songs and spirit and life have been built around the ability for each and every person to live equal side by side- and her shows and tours have made the world come together as one when Shania brings her music to Country's town.
And CBC and the high value placed upon the publicly owned and integrity driven history that CBC carries...has thoroughly disappointed me and an incredible number of Canadians and global viewers who considered Canada one of the more fair of countries. In my personal view, our real news reporting must hold integrity, honesty and value... like it used to. The female journalist was insulting the very people who read and enjoy CBC and the news formulas that are expected to be of some rules, obligations and dignity that has been CBC's history and Canada's jewel of reporting. Many are asking for her to publicly apologize to Ms Sarah. Palin and to women everywhere and then to publicly go on CBC news and resign. It's simply not done- and no person should be allowed to hide under the vague freedom of speech that was and is intended for each and every and all the citizenry. Enough is enough. Let's get back to basics... our friends and family belong to a whole mosiac of political and personal beliefs... and we love them for their individuality and their love of us. That's simply country music radio living people at their best. And we deserve it right. I love you, my ShaniaGirl going on 16 years now, and look forward to your new material when you bring your new music to Country's town.

MEDIA ETHICS CALLED INTO QUESTION IN PAKISTAN BOMBING...
Coverage of bombing called into question ISLAMABAD // The ethics of Pakistans vibrant independent news media have been called into question in the aftermath of exhaustive, if not excessive, live TV coverage of Saturdays suicide attack on the Marriott Hotel.
The bombing ignited a battle for ratings between the countrys six major news networks, which, within minutes, were all beaming graphic live video to millions of viewers glued to their sets. Behind the scenes, insiders say, under-pressure news managers were making instinctive judgement calls based predominantly on a gotta-be-first mantra. On-screen squabbles over whether the deadly explosion had been delivered by car or lorry (as was later established) were followed by a morbid race to update the fatality toll until the ultimate prize - security camera footage of the attack, was claimed. As the news tide ebbed, current affairs anchors set off on a two-day marathon of studio discussions, increasingly repetitive in the absence of fresh information. The undeniably deep impact on public morale of the competing live broadcasts, a very recent phenomenon in Pakistan, is ringing alarm bells at the highest levels of government.
[Due to] the way the media has conducted itself during the recent crises, it has acquired much greater importance, especially in the times of such catastrophe, Yousaf Raza Gilani, the prime minister, observed at a dinner for journalists on Wednesday. Mr Gilani, who holds a postgraduate degree in journalism, singled out opinionated studio commentary for criticism, saying some stations had focused on finding fault with the system instead of [acting as] a facilitator. Coverage by others, he said, was not realistic, as it exaggerated the overall impact on the economy.
Viewed in isolation, the prime ministers criticism could easily be interpreted as an attempt to restrict freedom of the electronic news media. However, his words also reflect a wider debate within the media over what should and should not be aired live in the battle to be first with the news. That debate has been raging with increasing intensity since private news channels first acquired and deployed mobile satellite-based broadcast units in early 2007. Public consciousness was jolted by the unprecedented flow of violent political imagery, which is widely accredited with turning uncommitted public opinion against Pervez Musharraf when he was president. Among the note broadcasts were the police suppression of lawyer protests in Islamabad in March 2007, as viewed from roof of Geo News TV bureau; the killing of 32 people during government-backed violence against lawyers in Karachi in May 2007, including memorable live broadcast of Aaj TV headquarters under automatic fire; and the bombing of Benazir Bhuttos cavalcade in Karachi upon her return to Pakistan in Oct 2007. Government attempts in Nov 2007 to impose a ban on live-from-location coverage caused a split among networks between those who believed defiance would earn audience loyalty and others that wanted to stay on air. Initially, cable distributors were ordered by the government to block transmission of defiant networks to subscribers. When those channels, particularly those with studios based overseas refused to heed further warnings, Mr Musharraf used his influence with their host government to shut down their operations. The repeal of restrictions by the incoming democratic government in March is believed by some media leaders to have fostered a sense of bravado that glossed over a lack of objective coverage.
The media has become used to taking on and defying the government. At times, it is the medias fault that they become outrageous, said Tahir Ikram, who pioneered live-from-location event coverage in 2005 as programming director of CNBC Pakistan. Beneath the bravado, occasionally voiced on air as lightly disguised threats to censors by current affairs show hosts, the news networks preoccupation with live-from-location transmission often glosses over a lack of editorial planning.
The lack of advertising support for daytime transmissions, when audiences are a fraction of the evening prime time, means programming plans are focused on the 7pm-midnight time-band. With repeats, punctuated only by five-minute bulletins, running for the rest of the 24-hour day, there is little motivation for TV news bosses to meticulously plan each day. Here, we just go live. The media is so immature and jumps on everything before thinking it through, Mr Ikram said. Hardly any editorial thinking goes into what is going to air.
Many journalists are worried that the emergent breaking, breaking news culture, as they condescendingly refer to it, is symptomatic of a deeper ethical malaise affecting their profession. Accredited journalists are the legal beneficiaries of perks such as quotas of discounted residential land, previously the exclusive domain of politicians, civil servants and armed forces personnel. With little incentive to rock the boat, often unless the commercial imperative of ratings demands it, the quality of journalism has struggled to keep pace with the six-fold jump in broadcast volume in as many years.
I doubt we are raising any political or social awareness among the viewing public, because the quality of news and political discussion is not empowering, one senior Islamabad TV journalist said, speaking anonymously. We are reinforcing triviality in peoples minds. Neutral players in Pakistans political dispensation agree on the need for ethical reform, albeit from within the industry.
The media has overall played a positive role involving the general public in political events and given voice to ordinary people, said Asma Jehangir, a special rapporteur of the United Nations Human Rights Council.
But we do need oversight to stem the tendency of spreading disinformation or misinformation and prevent calls and incitement to violence, she said.
She may not get the White House, but Sen. Hillary Clinton turned out to be a pretty big draw in the Nielsen department.
Bigger than Michelle Obama.
An estimated 25.97 million viewers tuned in to watch Clinton's speech Tuesday night at the Democratic National Convention, according to Nielsen's ratings for eight cable and broadcast networks.
By comparison, Monday's prime-time telecast of Michelle Obama's speech drew 22.29 million viewers, according to Nielsen. The largest audience demographic for
both nights was viewers 55 and older
(13.8 million Tuesday).
The smallest? Viewers age 12-17, who accounted for 439,000 of Nielsen's tally Tuesday.

This is the story of our Grandmothers and Great-grandmothers; they lived only 90 years ago.
Remember, it was not until 1920 that women were granted the right to go to the polls and vote.
The women were innocent and defenseless, but they were jailed nonetheless for picketing the White House, carrying signs asking for the vote. And by the end of the night, they were barely alive. Forty prison guards wielding clubs and their warden's blessing went on a rampage against the 33 women wrongly convicted of 'obstructing sidewalk traffic.'
(Lucy Burns) They beat Lucy Burns, chained her hands to the cell bars above her head and left her hanging for the night, bleeding and gasping for air.
(Dora Lewis) They hurled Dora Lewis into a dark cell, smashed her head against an iron bed and knocked her out cold. Her cellmate, Alice Cosu, thought Lewis was dead and suffered a heart attack. Additional affidavits describe the guards grabbing, dragging, beating, choking, slamming, pinching, twisting and kicking the women.
Thus unfolded the 'Night of Terror' on Nov. 15, 1917, when the warden at the Occoquan Workhouse in Virginia ordered his guards to teach a lesson to the suffragists imprisoned there because they dared to picket Woodrow Wilson's White House for the right to vote. For weeks, the women's only water came from an open pail. Their food--all of it colorless slop--was infested with worms.
(Alice Paul) When one of the leaders, Alice Paul, embarked on a hunger strike, they tied her to a chair, forced a tube down her throat and poured liquid into her until she vomited. She was tortured like this for weeks until word was smuggled out to the press.
So, refresh my memory. Some women won't vote this year because- -why, exactly? We have carpool duties? We have to get to work? Our vote doesn't matter? It's raining?
Last week, I went to a sparsely attended screening of HBO's new movie 'Iron Jawed Angels.' It is a graphic depiction of the battle these women waged so that I could pull the curtain at the polling booth and have my say. I am ashamed to say I needed the reminder.
All these years later, voter registration is still my passion. But the actual act of voting had become less personal for me, more rote. Frankly, voting often felt more like an obligation than a privilege. Sometimes it was inconvenient.
My friend Wendy, who is my age and studied women's history, saw the HBO movie, too. When she stopped by my desk to talk about it, she looked angry. She was--with herself. 'One thought kept coming back to me as I watched that movie,' she said. 'What would those women think of the way I use, or don't use, my right to vote? All of us take it for granted now, not just younger women, but those of us who did seek to learn.' The right to vote, she said, had become valuable to her 'all over again.'
HBO released the movie on video and DVD . I wish all history, social studies and government teachers would include the movie in their curriculum I want it shown on Bunco night, too, and anywhere else women gather. I realize this isn't our usual idea of socializing, but we are not voting in the numbers that we should be, and I think a little shock therapy is in order.
It is jarring to watch Woodrow Wilson and his cronies try to persuade a psychiatrist to declare Alice Paul insane so that she could be permanently institutionalized. And it is inspiring to watch the doctor refuse. Alice Paul was strong, he said, and brave. That didn't make her crazy.
The doctor admonished the men: 'Courage in women is often mistaken for insanity.'
We need to get out and vote and use this right that was fought so hard for by these very courageous women. Whether you vote democratic, republican or independent party - remember to vote.

Congratulations to Elizabeth May for raising such a high profile for Canadian Women as Leader of a political party in Canada and raising enormous awareness of the Green Party. You were by far one of the greatest winners of the night of Canada's 2008 elections. You are to be commended. Congratulations Canada- 68 women elected to parliament - a Historical first. Canada was hijacked into an Election with a 2 month time frame that guaranteed in the long run there would be no real winners..... to the tune of $300 Million dollars. Half the voters refused to bite in anger and hurt over the arrogance of the Prime Minister of Canada - time will prove we are right.... my personal view. Mr. Harper is being given one chance to lose his arrogance and controlling nature to the point of stomping on Canadians rights and liberties- and actually prove to the people of Canada - that we are indeed his first priority. I am comfortable with that. Organizing and structures will well be in place that Canada will never be placed in such a position again- Canada deserves the best of all voted to govern for our best interests- not personal nitpicking. So Congatulations to Mr. Harper and to all the candidates... and always to Canada. But the reason of the post here on our ShaniaGirls board has closure and a very positive one- congratulations Elizabeth May; Hillary Rodham Clinton- you are truly a hero to millions and millions of us ladies globally.... and your (American) election day (my personal view) will prove the will of women when they put their mark to ballot on the only day of power in politics- by the people, for the people, of the people. If the "false powered people pollers and junkers" truly believe that women are not taking their elections seriously and knowingly have 50 % of the voting power- just watch on voting day. Canada did.... and women created change....just like we said they would. The world's women .... is not a thing to be trifled with in this day and age- we worked to hard and it cost way to much to be on an equal stage with all men with the same qualifications and abilities. Sarah Palin is to be congratulated in my view as well- the political game has shown way too much of it's ugly side- and many of us are truly wondering .... if there is any dignity, honor, honesty and real care of everyday country radio people who own 99.9 per cent of the vote in our precious North America. Israel is moving forward with an obvious brilliant young woman who is making the world proud already. Elizabeth May lost her riding- but she won the world's heart of women all over and raised enormous awareness for the Green Party and won 2 seats and has become a force to be reckoned with.... the same for those 3 other significant women ... in my personal view. In Canada....we said ...many of the youth would not come out- they did not; we said weather would be an excuse... it was; we said some would refuse to vote over anger of feeling sandbagged.... they did. The consistent voters always come out to support their local candidates- they did... and they won. That's in Canada. Good luck with your American elections- you have great candidates; I personally believe... when all the garbage and junk is taken out of the mix..... all are very qualified and will serve you with honor. I truly believe that. My only wish for our beloved United States of America is that our Hillary Rodhan Clinton ; should the Democratic party be successful.... it's soooo close right now.... be given one of the greatest positions which suits her incredible intelligence, dignity and the honor with which she put the Democratic party first (regardless how her own Democratic Party and the media treated her... as we watched in total horror (my personal view)- she rose above it- just like a real lady does).... about the enormous growing list of so many hundreds of countries around the world who would jump at the chance to have her serve as American Ambassador in just about any country on the globe.... bet the list is the longest ever accorded to such a highly admired woman of today's world.
