TORONTO — Shania Twain says she has "a renewed faith in love and commitment" and is feeling "optimistic about the future" as she prepares to wed again.
The country music superstar announced on her blog that she is planning to marry Swiss businessman Frederic Thiebaud.
The 45-year-old Timmins, Ont., native describes Thiebaud as "a compassionate, understanding friend" who has helped her emerge from 2 1/2 years of emotional turmoil.
Thiebaud is the ex-husband of Twain's former friend Marie-Anne Thiebaud -- the woman who allegedly came between Twain and her first husband, Robert (Mutt) Lange.
Twain and Lange finalized their divorce earlier this year.
Twain thanks friends and fans for their support and says she will announce more news and details soon.
Twain makes no effort to hide her excitement over her relationship, which she describes in a blog entry dated Tuesday at 10 a.m.
"I'm in love! Frederic Nicolas Thiebaud has been a true gift to me as a compassionate, understanding friend and over time, an amazing love has blossomed from this precious friendship," she writes.
"Fred and I are happy to announce, our ENGAGEMENT!"
She says friends have helped her become "less fearful of change" and more open to what the future brings.
"In the last 2 1/2 years of adjusting to life after separation and divorce, I needed to lean on others more often than I was accustomed to," she writes.
"Now another year is about to pass, and I would like to thank everyone who helped me believe that new beginnings are possible and that love can be trusted."
The news comes as Twain prepares to launch a TV show on Oprah Winfrey's soon-to-launch cable channel, OWN.
"Why Not? With Shania Twain" will feature Twain opening up about her heartbreak and reveal how she's moving on.
Twain also plans to release a memoir next year.
