A banner year for indie rock supergroup boygenius continues with a stripped-back version of Shania Twain’s 1997 hit, “You’re Still The One.” The trio consisting of Phoebe Bridgers, Julien Baker and Lucy Dacus performed the classic single during a recent appearance on BBC Radio 1.
On the soulful track, Bridgers and Baker accompany the group’s harmonies with their guitar and mandolin (the instrument that was featured in the original version), respectively. Bridgers and Dacus each took a verse, with Baker taking over during the song’s final chorus.
Their full-length debut, the record, received nods for Album of the Year, Best Alternative Music Album, and Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical, while their excellent “Not Strong Enough” could possibly take home Record of the Year, Best Rock Performance, and Best Rock Song. In addition, “Cool About It” earned a nomination for Best Alternative Music Performance.
Bridgers also received a seventh nomination, Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, for her appearance on SZA’s “Ghost in the Machine.” This marks 12 Grammy nominations in Bridgers’ career, as Punisher earned her four nominations in 2021: Best New Artist, Best Alternative Music Album, Best Rock Performance, and Best Rock Song (“Kyoto”). It marks the first Grammy nominations for Baker and Dacus.
