Sabrina Carpenter and Shania Twain perform "That Don't Impress Me Much" during Austin City Limits Music Festival at Zilker Park in Austin, Texas - October 4, 2025
On Saturday, Oct. 4, Carpenter, who was one of the festival’s headliners, invited Twain, 60, for a duet of "That Don’t Impress Me Much."
Ahead of introducing the surprise guest, Carpenter, 26, told the crowd she had a gift for them, explaining,"“I show love in weird ways. One of the ways I show my love is by gift-giving. That’s one of my languages, and I thought it’d be fun to give you guys a little gift tonight."
"Give you a little present because you all showed up and showed out for all of us," she continued, "Will you please make the most noise in the world for the incredible, one and only Shania Twain?"
The singers then immediately broke out into Twain’s 1998 hit — which Carpenter also sang during her previous Short n’ Sweet Tour.
During the performance, Twain wore an all-black Western-inspired outfit, complete with a black cowboy hat, a Western-style shirt, black denim shorts, and black cowboy boots. Meanwhile, Carpenter’s look embraced a lighter country-inspired look, with a bedazzled yellow cropped flannel and matching bandana, bedazzled daisy duke shorts and white cowboy boots.
“Austin. Shania Twain! Make some f---ing noise,” Carpenter said after she and Twain hugged after the performance ended.
After the performance, both celebrated their duet on Instagram. Twain uploaded a few photos of the duo performing on stage, in addition to pictures of them embracing one another off stage. "It’s like Loretta and Dolly except it’s SHANIA & SABRINA 💖," Twain wrote in reference to Dolly Parton and Loretta Lynn and their famed close friendship.
Carpenter sweetly replied in the comments, writing, "😭😭😭 love you Shania!!!!"
Carpenter posted an Instagram carousel highlighting the entire weekend, with a couple of sweet snapshots of the pair singing alongside one another as well as a backstage Polaroid picture.
"ACL weekend 1💛💛💛 . @aclfestival. Crowd of my dreams. Shania of my dreams. Djo of my dreams. what a perfect night. thank you all so much for coming out and singing loudlyyy just how i like it,” her caption read. During Carpenter’s set, she also "arrested" Joe Keery for "being too hot."
Carpenter and Twain’s recent on-stage collaboration comes less than a year after Twain appeared in Carpenter’s A Nonsense Christmas Netflix special. In the star-studded special, Twain played the role of Mrs. Claus.
Prior to their performance, Twain remarked that it is "a huge compliment" to have the “Juno” singer cover "That Don't Impress Me Much.” Twain told E! News in September 2024, "[Carpenter is] such a talented person! She’s smart, so it’s a compliment."
Months later, in February 2025, Twain exclusively told PEOPLE that she is grateful that she has inspired the next generation of music stars — including Carpenter. "It is very moving," Twain says, "and I relate to what they say when they talk about me and how they're feeling and how they express it to me personally."
Austin City Limits Festival will continue this coming weekend, and Carpenter will return to the stage on Saturday, Oct. 11.
Some of the Austin City Limits Crowd Apparently Didn’t Realize Just How Iconic This Shania Twain Moment Really Was
By Chris Piner | American Songwriter | October 7, 2025
Heading into Austin City Limits, Sabrina Carpenter looked to finish the year off strong. Over the last year, she continued to travel for her Short n’ Sweet Tour, performed on Saturday Night Live, and released her newest album, Man’s Best Friend. Hitting the airwaves in August, the album reached No. 1 on the UK Albums and the US Billboard 200 charts. And over the weekend, she looked to produce an unforgettable performance when she welcomed Shania Twain to the stage to perform the hit song “That Don’t Impress Me Much.” But apparently, the fans took the song a little too seriously.
While entertaining the thousands of fans who traveled to see her perform, Carpenter had a pleasant surprise for them. Wanting to celebrate her love for country music, she covered the classic song “That Don’t Impress Me Much.” With the crowd singing along, the star brought out Twain. Together, they produced a memorable moment. The only problem was that many of the fans in the audience had no idea who Twain was.
Fans Get Roasted For Not Soaking in Sabrina Carpenter’s Collab With Shania Twain
Sharing a video of the duet online, Carpenter and Twain didn’t skip a beat when covering the song. But it was easy to notice the fans had no idea what was going on. With the video gaining over 30,000 likes, the comments completely roasted the crowd.
“I don’t think this crowd is as hype as they should be for this collab.”
“I’m convinced these people didn’t know it was Shania Twain or don’t know her at all.”
“I don’t think the crowd realizes how iconic this is.”
“My soul would’ve left my body if I was there and Shania came out. Are those people ok?!”
“The lack of excitement has me screaming. She brings out the BEST people and the crowd always sucks!!!”
For those who believe it might just be the video that was shared, another video from Austin City Limits showed the crowd completely silent during the performance. It’s hard to believe how the crowd reacted, given that Twain sold over 100 million albums and was labeled the “Queen of Country Pop.”
While the crowd witnessed easily one of the top moments at Austin City Limits, their lack of enthusiasm made it clear they didn’t realize they were watching country music royalty in action.
