In the past they literally destroyed Now and Queen of me and they’re clearly anti-Shania but they published a much kinder review on the new album.

IT’s so unfair that despite all the good reviews the album didn’t get the recognition it deserves.

Album Review – Shania Twain’s “Little Miss Twain”

Saving Country Music | July 30, 2026

Before we get into the nitty gritty of this album, just understand it in no way comes recommended. Some might say that even broaching a discussion about it is a waste of time or a fool’s errand, and maybe their right. But the last time Shania Twain released an album—2023’s Queen of Me—it received the unenviable score of 1.5/10 here at Saving Country Music. And frankly, that might have been generous and forgiving. It was that bad.

The now 60-year-old Shania Twain is not going to release relevant music at this stage in her career, nor should she try to. On her last album, she seemed to be under some impression that she could rekindle her pop dominance and act half her age, and frankly embarrassed herself in the process, including on the subsequent tour. It’s not easy for an aging country star, and especially a woman. But there is a certain point where any performer is smart to accept reality, embrace their status and be the best version of themselves they can be in this particular season in their life and career.

Does Shania do this on her new album Little Miss Twain? At times she totally does, and it results in the kinds of songs and moments that she could be using to craft her late career output to give her a second wind that forwards her career as a legacy act with dignity. But at other times, she falls back into the habit of wanting to be a young, relevant pop star, even if the stories fleshed out in the songs on this album come from her early life and career.

At times, Twain gets very personal in songs in a way that’s endearing, heartfelt, and honest. But in others, she slips back into a braggadocios boss queen persona that doesn’t exactly work for her in the contemporary context. This album is touted as Shania’s return to her roots. You certain hear that in some tracks, even if Twain’s roots were never truely country. And even when this album really tries to find some quality production, is still beset by the **** filter that’s on her vocal signal and that everything on the album seems to be run through, including overlayering vocal parts that make certain tracks sound excessively muddy.

On the whole though, Little Miss Twain is certainly a course correction for the pop country legend, and soon-to-be (gulp) Hall of Famer. She’s more on track with this moment, and so you want to encourage this direction, not just for Twain, but any older performer trying to find their footing in the contemporary context. There’s almost no programmed tracks or synth on this album. It’s organic, even if not especially country. This album also addresses the aging of music entertainers in a way that’s important to discuss.

Ultimately, Little Miss Twain, just like Shania’s previous record, will not be what she’s remembered for. Even her most devout wine mom fans who will swear this is a masterpiece will nod along when Shania performs a few singles from this album live as they wait for “Any Man of Mine” to come up on the setlist. But what you can take away from the album is that getting more personal and pulling from your own life’s story while trying to be more true to yourself always results in better art, even if like in this case, it’s still considerably mild.

Rating: 5/10

Yes! Shania is getting great reviews from this album! I love this album and I wish it would sell better!

"Kinder review"? They still bashed the sh*t out of Little Miss Twain. This is the review that members had me delete when I posted it last week. biggrin

I wouldn't have deleted the review. Sometimes it's good to see how nasty some reviews can be and in this case they were a bunch of morons. Like a 1 star for the queen of me was absolutely ridiculous 😆

This could be at least a long chart run album, in my opinion if people get to know she has a new album, it could still increase sells week by week like years ago, on phisical sales she's done quite good, the problem it's been on streaming.

About all the songs i like more and more every listening, it's rare but problematic has become one of my favourites.

I think also bonus tracks and deluxe edition of queen of me were the beginning of this "new" sound, also twister song and the other soundtracks, this songs all could fit perfectly in this album, maybe universal/republic asked her for some pop sounds and now she's really done what she was going on.

For those who doesn't notice on Spotify so long ago released a new version of the duet with Andrea Bocelli with Christmas arrangements.

https://open.spotify.com/intl-es/track/02kX7sjdAvnFzvnTRmkf5p

Anyone knows where to see or listen the duet with Maren Morris on "That don't impress me much" full from Girls just wanna have fun weekend? I've only found versions incomplete.

I agree. Although it isn’t a commercial album. I really enjoy it, but it isn’t what is commercially successful right now. I consider it a passion album that she went into with a definite concept behind, and she should be proud of it. Fans will enjoy it and as it comes up in streaming, I think people will hear songs and enjoy them

I agree! I have a playlist of just her albums, and I have to admit that it blends well with the rest of her discography and doesn’t feel out of place. I’m quite literally enjoying this album, which is funny as I was one of the first to be like ” I don’t like this, it sounds awful. It won’t be in heavy rotation in my house.” Boy, am I eating those words! All this negativity talk about the charts is kinda a bummer though. I honestly don’t think Shania cares overly at this time in her career. This is such a great album and we just need to leave at that.

This was one of those show don’t tell kind of thing. She showed us what she expected regarding albums sales through zero music videos and close to no promoting. No surprise for her or her label and no surprise for me either. She’s 60 and unless she makes a lightening in a bottle kind of track none of the songs are making it past her fans. That said, I love Problemetic. I think it’s become my favorite.

Me too! I listen to it any chance I can get! I would love if Shania could just performance songs from Now, Queen, LMT and some classical songs!

Shania Twain suffers devastating career blow with new album after backlash over raunchy stage outfits: 'It's not easy to evolve as an artist'

By Jacques Peterson, US Senior Entertainment Reporter | Daily Mail | August 7, 2026

Shania Twain has suffered a rare career flop with the release of her latest album.

The country music legend, 60, released her seventh studio album Little Miss Twain late last month, with the disc becoming the lowest-charting release of her career.

It debuted at a dismal No. 131 on the Billboard 200 with just 12,000 copies sold.

It's a dramatic drop from her last studio album, 2023's Queen of Me, which debuted at No. 10.

Prior to that, Twain reached No. 1 on the charts with 2002's Up! and 2017's Now.

Throughout the course of her career, Twain has sold more than 100 million records worldwide, making her one of the best-selling artists of all time.

In interviews to promote the project, the singer admitted that Little Miss Twain is far more personal and less commercial than her previous work.

Speaking to Billboard Canada, Twain said that the album focuses a lot on her childhood and contains, 'a lot of things that I wouldn't normally write about as a commercial songwriter'.

She also admitted that she was nervous to release the record due to its deeply personal subject matter.

'I'm full of anxiety and excitement at the response but even if you find one lyric that speaks to you or makes you feel something I'll be happy,' she wrote on Instagram.

'The emotional journey on this album was a true rollercoaster and there were moments where I felt like I was sitting with my younger self while my mother looked over me. It was very painful at times, but telling some of these stories out loud was also incredibly healing, and then there was the fun and laughter,' she continued.

'Thank you for going into the next chapter with me - it's not easy to evolve as an artist and keep your people with you but you’ve been loyal and supportive through it all.'

It comes as Twain has faced criticism from both age and body-shamers in recent months after wearing a string of scantily-clad outfits while opening for Harry Styles in London.

The sex symbol has also admitted to dealing with her own insecurities and struggling with her changing appearance.

'I go from being this young, stunning figure, beautiful skin, everything’s in the right place to a time in my life where I couldn’t look in the mirror because all I could see were imperfections and not wanting to be that curvy thing,' she told People magazine in July.

Over the years, the singer has learned to accept menopause and let go of trying to control her changing body.

'It is well-being first, always, to becoming an older woman and now looking in the mirror, no problem. I’m like, I just have to get over this because every day that goes by, I’m getting older; the dips and bulges and the sags are just getting more and more prominent,' she asserted.

'I’m not trying to be 30. I’m not trying to be 25, and I won’t be ever again. That’s my own fault for not looking in the mirror when I was younger, and shame on me. I encourage everybody: enjoy yourself the way you are right now and love it,' she explained.

'Vanity is not worth torture. I’m just learning every phase that I go through, and I adapt.'

Twain has dealt with trolling over her raunchy outfits while on tour with 32-year-old Styles.

Most recently, she sparked an online firestorm after a TikTok clip from her June 26 performance at London’s Wembley Stadium went viral.

She was singing her 1999 hit Man! I Feel Like a Woman! while wearing a revealing black lace dress and executing low crouches. At one point during the provocative number, she almost suffered a wardrobe malfunction.

TikTok users were quick to criticise the ensemble, with some branding it 'tacky' while another said that Twain was 'too talented and beautiful for this' and needed a new stylist.

But Twain said that she refuses to let external comments or societal standards affect her.

'My body is not shameable. That courage comes with time and maturity. Body shaming is nothing that’s going to affect me,' she said.

Maybe she's planning to release Quit My Life as her next single... ?
Ultimately, I think this album is one of her best. It's easy to listen to on repeat without ever getting old. It features real instruments and musicians (which is very expensive). It's truly a great album. It doesn't have the flaws of Queen Of Me (abrupt cuts, except for "Faded Blue Jeans", songs that don't go together and a certain coldness). This album is warmer and more authentic. I love it!
Probably the last one to be released internationally on CD (sadly). It's a shame it's not selling well. Releasing it in the middle of summer when people are on vacation might not have been the best idea.

I wonder if Shania didn't plan on releasing the album right now. I do like this album it's very personal and country. I like the last two albums too,

Having sat with the album for two weeks, I am still absolutely in love with it and wish it would have done better in the United States. Country music is very beloved here right now so it not doing well is genuinely shocking to me. Regardless, the album is in heavy rotation for me.

I don't think they're willing to release another single. The album's done after just one week. And I think she should do Vegas first and then a Tour. Vegas always sells and they could make the money they're losing with the album. Once gone on level financially she could risk to go on Tour with the COO 30th anniversary and UP! 25th.

The album is good even though there definitely are songs that could have been produced and recorded better. I'd rather have less songs but better produced and recorded than many songs done in a rush.

Yes, I'm fairly certain she originally intended to release Little Miss Twain in September or October. I'd posted this to the other thread:

I think the album may have been originally slated for the fall. Look at this from the DuJour article:

"Since she’d just be turning in the latest album, Twain expected to take the summer off. She wanted to ride horses. To cook. (Lentil soup for her 25-year-old son, Eja; her special vegetable casserole of cheese, broccoli, cauliflower, peas and carrots for her husband, Frédéric Thiébaud.) Play lots of tennis. Write more music. “I take writing very seriously,” Twain says. Think about the jukebox musical of her songs that’s in development. Spend time between the Bahamas and Switzerland, where she has homes.

“I love the Canadian nature,” she says. “I love being in a tent. I love sleeping outside. I love cooking on a fire. I love the Exumas. I love the Caribbean. I love the waters. I love just being in the water and forgetting about the rest of life.”

To that end, Twain says, “I wasn’t planning on doing anything this summer. I’d already decided in my mind that I wasn’t getting on the stage.”

And then Styles reached out."

None of that sounds like she was planning to release the album (and run the press gauntlet) in July, but releasing in tandem with the London concerts might have been too good a marketing opportunity to pass up.

Even more to the point than marketing, she may have just wanted new music to perform. From a marketing perspective, Dirty Rosie is a somewhat confounding choice for lead single. It makes so much more sense if you assume she chose it based on live performance energy and entertainment value.

Anyway, if this was orignally slated for fall, it would explain:

  • the abbreviated track list on the records—vinyl pressings usually require a six month lead time; to expedite the order, they may have needed it to be a single disc.
  • the CD packaging—single sided printing on the tray card and a much shorter booklet than her recent releases would have shaved time off both the graphic design and printing processes.
  • why there was no tour announcement to coincide with the album release—the Now and Queen of Me tours had late April/early May start dates; assuming she holds to that pattern, she would have been announcing a tour 9-10 months in advance when 4-6 appears to be more standard.
  • the quality of the visualizers—visualizers are usually comparable to the Dirty Rosie lyric video with multiple clips cut together to create something between atmosphere and a mini-story; these are a single 2-7 second clip played on a loop. They were either super rushed or incredibly lazy, and Shania has never been lazy.

She must have only done one or two video shoots for the entire album—the one of her in the field in front of the old house and the one where she’s lying on the ground. It looks like she recorded 10 or 15 seconds for each song during those shoots. It’s a very strange marketing strategy.

I wonder if the album was rushed because she wants 2027 to focus on the 30th anniversary of Come On Over and the 25th anniversary of Up!. She has said that some of these songs had been around for years—“Rockstars” goes back roughly ten years, and “Northern Town” had also been around for a long time. Maybe she realized she had enough songs that shared a common theme, recorded them, wrote the title track to tie everything together and released the album without being particularly concerned about promotion or chart performance.

What makes its development even more confusing is that “Wanted Man,” “Bone Dry,” “Done & Dusted” and “Boots Don’t” would all have fit Little Miss Twain extremely well, both sonically and thematically. “Bone Dry” is literally about the contrast between Shania’s underprivileged childhood and the life she has now, while the others have the rootsy, barroom-country sound that runs through this album. Instead, the first three were added to deluxe editions of Queen of Me, where they never fit especially well, and “Boots Don’t” was released separately on the Twisters soundtrack.

That makes me think Little Miss Twain wasn’t a defined album concept during the Queen of Me era. She probably recognized the common thread among a collection of older and newer songs later, completed the album fairly quickly and released it during the short window before the 2027 anniversary cycle begins.

As someone else noted, it’s also strange that Shania has no writing credit on “Problematic” after repeatedly saying she wouldn’t record songs she didn’t write. Unless I’m mistaken, it’s her first since “You Win My Love” in 1995.

Wanted Man was way better than any of these songs on Little Miss Twain. I always said Wanted Man was one of Shania's best on the Queen Of Me album.

I’m sorry but I love QoM and wouldn’t discredit it. There are some classic sounding Shania songs on there. Wanted man, although good and looking forward to her releasing it, I was a bit disappointed. I’d like to see her go more in the direction of Not Just A Girl and Got It Good for the next record. It’s split in the middle of country pop and soothes her voice well.

That's what I'm talking about. Watching basically the same video clips but with different songs over and over again for the past 3 months is getting OLD. Time to hang it up and move on.

Chart Data posted the 12K figure- that outlet is usually accurate, I gather, when Billboard doesn't report numbers. If accurate, that's a decent number to be ranked 131. HITS' No. 50 for the week was 15,787. Just 3.7K separating 50 from 131 isn't much of a gap, unless HITS' numbers were notably lower than Billboard's at No. 50.

Although isn't good, numbers are not as bad as it seems.

Hope next weeks she could comeback to charts

Shania Twain’s New Album Disappoints As It Debuts On The Charts

By Hugh McIntyre | Forbes | August 9, 2026

It has been more than 30 years since Shania Twain released her self-titled debut album, and the country icon is still at it. After a 15-year break between Up! and Now, she has been working fairly consistently for nearly a decade, delivering a new project every few years. Little Miss Twain arrived last month, more than three years after Queen of Me.

That set launches on multiple Billboard charts this week, but it does not perform nearly as well as Twain’s past full-lengths. In fact, Little Miss Twain brings the singer-songwriter to a new low on the most important albums ranking when looking specifically at her seven studio LPs.

Shania Twain Debuts Her New Album Very Low

Little Miss Twain manages an unremarkable start on the Billboard 200. The collection opens at No. 131 on the ranking, which measures the most-consumed albums in the United States using a combination of sales and streams.

Luminate reports that during its first tracking period of availability, Twain’s latest moved 11,600 equivalent units between purchases and streaming. Most of those copies were actual sales from diehard supporters of the country musician.

Shania Twain Scores Her Lowest-Charting Studio Album

Of Twain’s seven proper studio albums, Little Miss Twain is by far the lowest-peaking on the Billboard 200. Her self-titled debut missed the roster entirely, but every other studio project since has spent time inside the top 10. Two of those collections, Up! and Now, reached No. 1. Even Queen of Me, which arrived in 2023, broke into the highest tier and peaked at No. 10.

Shania Twain Matches Another Low-Peaking Set

When other projects like compilations, live recordings and alternate releases are also taken into consideration, Little Miss Twain ties as Twain’s second-lowest-peaking title on the Billboard 200. It matches Not Just a Girl: The Highlights, a soundtrack that debuted and peaked at No. 131 in September 2022 and spent just one frame on the tally. Up! (Country Mixes), a reworked take on the songs featured on Up!, launched at No. 190 back in 2002.

Shania Twain Reaches the Sales Chart’s Top 10

Little Miss Twain does manage a top 10 opening on one of the four Billboard rankings where it appears. The album debuts at No. 6 on the Top Album Sales chart, giving Twain her seventh career placement on the roster. The release sold just under 10,500 copies across digital downloads, CDs and vinyl.

Shania Twain Doubles Her Vinyl Chart Hits

Twain also doubles her number of appearances on the Vinyl Albums ranking, which focuses exclusively on purchases on that format. Queen of Me almost became her first No. 1 on the tally when it debuted at No. 2 in February 2023. Little Miss Twain does not perform quite as well, missing the top 10 by three spaces as it starts at No. 13.

Shania Twain’s Latest Starts Low on the Country Ranking

Little Miss Twain also underperforms on the Top Country Albums chart, which is compiled similarly to the Billboard 200 but focuses only on country releases. Twain’s latest kicks off its run at No. 26.

The superstar has now landed a dozen projects on the roster, and only two have peaked in lower rungs. The Complete Limelight Sessions climbed to No. 43, while Shania Twain stalled at No. 67 — a position that no longer even exists on the now-50-space tally.

The fact that the album did terrible in Canada speaks volumes about the production. So what happens next? Another album?

I don't think we'll see an album from Shania for a looooong time. If ever. Maybe she will release some EPs or some random songs but who knows about a whole new album.

A good production and great producers don't guarantee a successfull album and making records costs so much, particularly if you use big, known producers and musicians.

Shania will never give up making albums, as long as her voice hangs on. Now, it may not be with her current record label but I could see Shania trying out the Independent route if nothing else works.

Well that's ridiculous lol yeah she will make another album at her own pace.  This album was personal and you need songs radio will play to sell albums. Radio rarely plays women over 55. But shania will still make albums and will tour.    And what does money have to do with her getting certain producers?  She can pay whatever money to a producer she wants lol so get that money b.s. narrative out of your head.   It all comes down to her goals for the album. This album everyone knew wouldn't be commercially successful. I think you fans worry more about her career than she does.  She will be fine and get back up and eventually start a new album. And money will never be an issue with shania and music she decides to make.

Hi guys! It says I’m a newbie but I was a member here for years until I mixed up my log in details and could never get back in. Finally managed to sort it today by starting over. Good to see you all!

I’ve been keeping up with the threads and just wanted to share my views, as I’m really frustrated. I love ‘Little Miss Twain’ so much, but I instantly knew that it wouldn’t do well in the mainstream. It doesn’t sound like it was made to, though. Surely they know by now that Shania is most successful when she’s releasing country pop, and this isn’t that. I’ve been frustrated for years with so many things. ‘Swinging with my eyes closed’ and ‘Life’s about to get good’ got music videos, but then Swingin‘ vanished and no more videos were made. I can’t really count ‘Giddy Up’ as the video didn’t feature much of Shania at all, but why are they releasing her albums and then not releasing singles with a music video? For me, that’s where her strength was. I can’t hear ‘That Don’t Impress’ without seeing her in that leopard print in the desert, all these years later. Same with ‘Gonna Getcha’.

‘I’m Alright’ should’ve definitely been a single with a gritty video, but nothing. I heard that ’Who’s gonna be your girl’ was released as a single in the UK but I didn‘t see ANY evidence of this, and believe me, I would’ve known if there was anything to know. How was it released as a single, exactly? I didn’t see a cd single or anything. I don’t think anyone near me would have even heard of that song before in their lives.

Then we come to ‘Queen Of Me’. Again, hardly any single releases and only two vids? WHAT IS GOING ON at Shania HQ? Times have certainly changed, but why can’t artists still release songs that sounded like their older and best material? I’d love to hear Shania releasing new 90’s sounding pop songs again, but I could say the same for so many artists.

Anyway, as I said, I’ve enjoyed most songs on all of the albums but I’m frustrated for her. I really love this album, but I’m already a huge fan. Here’s a pic of how excited I was for this album, and still am!

I really hope we get a new album in a few years, which sounds a bit more like what people loved about her to start with (I don't mean her vocals because I'm so proud of her for forging on, despite her surgery), and I hope we get actual singles with music videos. She deserves it, unless it's Shania that doesn't want to make vids anymore?

I also agree, she will continue on. It is a great album, I don't care what anyone says. It feels like I've said 100 times now, most people didn't know Shania had a new album coming out because of lack of promo... yeah, yeah, yeah Tommy... radio... whatever. The only people I know who still listen to radio are boomers. I'm just sick and tired of the dramatics on here. From the "omg I'm crying, this is so good", to the switch to "this is terrible, dooms day". Get over it and just enjoy the album if you like it, without glooming all over it. I could keep ranting but what a waste of time.

THANK YOU! Well said, I couldn't agree more! I don't care what anyone says. This album is diamond in my house. I still have it on repeat. I couldn't be more happy! Honestly, at this point I want a Christmas album. That is so long overdue!

How'd he go from "couldn't be" to "could he be the one"? Stranger Things have happened underneath the midnight sun.

Definitely more Pop! But to be honest, if she doesn't work with better producers it won't matter. And better management. These people suck!

I’d actually love a dance pop album from her. Number one and got it good are my favourites from Queen of me and I think the sound really suits her voice well. But I know I’m definitely in the minority here.

I agree with the overall sentiment here, but I’d make one distinction: she isn’t choosing bad producers; she’s choosing producers who aren’t right for the current state of her voice or her artistic direction.

Zach Dawes is a highly successful producer who has done great work with Lana Del Rey. However, that style and sound don’t automatically translate well to Shania.

I think she would benefit from working with producers who are a safer, more natural fit. Someone like David Foster comes to mind. He produced “Today Is Your Day,” has decades of experience, and could probably come closer to the polished, layered production associated with Mutt.

Brandi Carlile is another possibility. She’s an accomplished artist in her own right, but her production work on Tanya Tucker’s recent albums also earned critical acclaim and helped revitalize Tanya’s career after it had stalled for years.

I also agree that Shania’s management needs to change. It feels as though everything has gone downhill since Let’s Go! closed at the end of 2022. I don’t know whether she changed management teams or what happened behind the scenes, but that was the visible turning point for me.

I’ve also noticed that Fred is part of her management team, and I get the sense that he may have too much influence over major artistic decisions at this point.

Fred is the problem. End of story. He shouldn’t be involved at all. You can see his influence over the cheap production of shows and lack of promotion. Word on the street is that he doesn’t like to spend money. He has completely degraded her legacy in many ways. Can’t stand him!

What kind of album do you all want Shania to release next? More pop, or stick with country?

Definitely more Pop! But to be honest, if she doesn't work with better producers it won't matter. And better management. These people suck!

I’d actually love a dance pop album from her. Number one and got it good are my favourites from Queen of me and I think the sound really suits her voice well. But I know I’m definitely in the minority here.

I agree with you!

Thanks all. I’m hoping she goes back to Pop, too. On another note, I had no idea Fred was involved in her music at all. Where do you find info like this, please?

Where did you heard that about Fred? I did read that he joined the management team but I didn't hear that he is cheap.

I think this is a far stretch regarding Fred. I'd be interested in knowing where you got your information as well. Whether he's on the team or not, I'm sure they still discuss everything anything so, on or off, he'd still be able to influence her, right or wrong. I honestly think Shania is at a stage in her life where she doesn't want to spend all her time promoting.
